Knights Lose to Huxley at Duals
QCT:
Tiny Huxley, Iowa, boasts a wrestling program at Ballard High School that — just in this year alone — has wins over Illinois’ best team (Lombard Montini), Virginia’s (Christiansburg) and Wisconsin’s (Wisconsin Rapids).Ballard has beat two-time Class 3A state duals champion Waverly-Shell Rock this year and could lay claim to being Iowa’s best team in any class.
So beating the Quad-Cities’ best team wound up being another step toward making that claim Saturday, as Ballard and its arsenal of individual state champions handed a 56-12 setback to Assumption in the Class 2A state team dual tournament at the US Cellular Center.
“They take wrestling more seriously. They put in a little more time, a little more effort, and the more time you spend at something, the better you’re going to be. That showed,” Knights coach Pete Bush said. “We’re a school that requires multi-sport athletes, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“But it’s tough to deal with people that put in 12 months a year.”
