Wahlert Crushes Knights in Boys Basketball

Via the Dubuque Telegraph Herald:

As the NBA-length 3-pointer rained home with a clean swish through the net, Eric May was already jogging back on defense.

Some things you don’t need to see through to fruition. You can just feel their truth.

On Tuesday night, May found a zone like no other Dubuque Wahlert player before him and delivered the greatest single-game scoring performance in the rich history of one of Iowa’s elite prep basketball programs.

With an overmatched Davenport Assumption defense unable to stop him in any form, an unconscious May dropped a school-record 43 points in Class 3A No. 8-ranked Wahlert’s 80-56 ascent past the Knights at Wahlert Gym.

The Iowa recruit sank 15 of 21 shots and went 8-for-8 from the floor in a spectacular 23-point third quarter show that earned him the record before the frame was even completed. With 48 seconds left in the third, May walked off the court to a standing ovation.
