The senior ended his career by winning a state baseball championship Saturday. His father, Billy, coached the title team. That capped a career with 13 letters - four in baseball and wrestling, three in football and two in track. He’ll play baseball at Illinois. His senior year provided across-the-board honors: - In football, he was an Elite all-state running back. He rushed for 1,533 yards and broke Mississippi Athletic Conference records for touchdowns (39) and points (234). Argo also set a career scoring mark, breaking the previous best set by former Register male athlete of the year Tavian Banks.
- He took third in the state wrestling meet, going 43-1. His only loss came to the state champion. - Argo qualified in four sprint races for the state track meet, placing in three of them. That’s the sport he said he competes in just to stay in shape. - Monday, he was named captain of the Class 2-A all-state baseball team. He drove in three runs and scored three more in three state tournament games. Argo said he’s a relaxed kind of guy. That’s a long way from his early days, his father said.
